Emily Hickman
Emily Hickman first became interested in the violin after watching Itzak Perlman perform on Sesame Street. Her classical studies began at age 10 and in her fourteen years of playing, she has studied primarily through the Suzuki method. In 2002 Emily was accepted into the Denison University music program where she studied classical violin and bluegrass fiddle with Dr. Andrew Carlson. Emily has performed with such groups as the Welsh Hills Orchestra, the rockabilly band "La-Z-Boy and the Recliners" and her college bluegrass band "The Granvillbillies".
Emily enjoys the challenge that comes with teaching beginning violin and viola students. Her students have ranged in age from 4 to 63 years old and she likes to encourage parents to learn alongside their children. She enjoys mixing fiddle techniques into classical lessons to encourage good listening skills and rhythmic development. |
